Around 20 to 30 years ago, when the internet first became part of our daily lives, many people believed it would replace jobs, disrupt industries, and change the way businesses operated.
Looking back today, they weren’t entirely wrong. The internet did change the world.
It changed how we communicate, how we shop, how we learn, how we build businesses and eventually, it became something most of us couldn’t imagine living without.
Fast forward to today, and I see many of the same conversations happening around AI.
People ask: “Will AI replace my job?”, “Will my skills still be relevant?”, “How do I stay competitive?”
These questions sound remarkably similar to those asked when the internet first emerged.
But here’s what history has taught us. The internet didn’t eliminate work, it changed the nature of work.
Travel agents became online booking specialists.
Marketing became digital marketing.
Sales moved from cold calls to social selling.

New industries emerged.
New careers were created.
New opportunities followed.
I believe AI is taking us through a similar transformation. The difference is that AI is accelerating the pace of change.
Instead of taking decades, change is now happening in months. Perhaps the question isn’t whether AI will change the way we work. It already is.
The better question is: How do we evolve alongside it?
This is something I’ve been reflecting on recently, and it’s been shaping how I think about the future of work and the role we each play in it.
